For the Spring/Summer 2011 collection Whyred finds inspiration in the things people aspire to, their hopes and dreams. An eclectic mix of references from nature embodies our longing for the things people cannot achieve, like flying. Birds play an important part inspiring the construction of the garments, where the oily coatings of wings transcends into cloths and fabrics with a shiny protective layer. To contrast the lightness and clarity of birds, the deep oceans inspire with its fascinating inhabitants and colors, tantalizing our attraction of the unknown.
The men’s collection works with two silhouettes. The first one is built on a sharp shoulder, straight and slim tops combined with jodhpur shaped bottoms. The second silhouette has a boxy, short and straight top combined with carrot shaped pleated pants with slim ankles.
Key details are unconstructed, transformable zip functions, hidden details, soft or oily fabrics, gun metal and oxide black metal.
MATERIAL
The feeling of the fabric is essential in this collection and treatments that give the fabric a greasy feel, as well as oil coated fabrics, play an important role. Classic fabrics, like regular cotton, fine merino, lamb wool, and military wools are combined with washed leather, double faced jersey, and jersey with different treatments and washes.
COLOURS AND PRINTS
Inspired by the light in the tunnel the colors goes from dark to light like Spring turning into Summer. Important colors are black, navy and wine going into different shades of greens; deep forest green, military green and strong green. Accent colors are warm mustard, cobolt blue, purple, lavender, new blue, light cement and steam.To relate to the vision of going through a tunnel the Whyred print has taken a more architectural take, with a drawing of a never-ending corridor. A pencil drawn mishmash of bird wings becomes an all-over print relating to the bird theme.
SHOES AND ACCESSORIES
Birds' beaks and claws are there for protection and the men’s shoe collection is inspired by this in the sense of protecting the feet. Wrap seamed heel and toe inserts enhance this as well as the heavy duty worker sole. Leather, nubuck and treated cotton are the main materials. The colors are military green, chestnut, cognac and navy blue. The bags are in washed leather with details in gun metal or oxide black metal.
